Worlds greatest hacker kevin mitnick, who was once the FBI's most wanted hacker says Helthcare.gov is a hackers wet dream. "It's shameful the team that built the Healthcare.gov site implemented minimal, if any, security best practices," he wrote in a letter submitted to panel chairman Lamar Smith.
HealthCare.gov is consumer web portal of 36-state federal health insurance marketplace, which offers private insurance.
Kevin mitnick is a computer security consultant and author. He was convicted of various communications and computer related crimes. At the time of his arrest, he was the most wanted computer criminal in the world. He served five years in prison for his crimes.
He currently runs Mitnick Security Consulting, LLC, which helps companies determine their security vulnerabilities and helps to secure it. He also wrote a book Ghost in the Wires, which is all about his hacking experience. Mitnick is notorious for his use of Social Engineering, the act of manupulating people into divulging confedential information rather than breaking in or using technical cracking techniques.
Getting the data like personal information from healthcare.gov is subject to an easy attack by hackers. currently there's no report on hacking attempts but the site can be a easy target for hackers to breach.
David Kennedy, CEO and founder of TrustSec LLC, a professional white hat hacker, concurred with Mitnick’s judgment about the sites security issue.
Kennedy said that little has changed in regards to the site’s security since he testified before Congress on November 19th. Only one half of one security flaw has been fixed. Otherwise, the site remains basically unchanged. In fact, HealthCare.gov is not only unsafe and vulnerable, security for the site is worse today than it was 2 months ago.
